SERVICE CONTRACTS ARE INEFFECTIVE FOR MAINTAINING OPTIMUM POOL SAFETY AND AQUATIC RESULTS

The primary safety issue facing commercial pool owners is combating the daily threat of Recreational Water Illnesses, which include a wide variety of infections such as gastrointestinal, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, neurologic, and wound infections. RWIs can cause serious illness or even death.  The most commonly reported RWIs are diarrhea and legionellosis.  Diarrheal illnesses are caused by germs such as Crypto (short for Cryptosporidium), Giardia, Shigella, norovirus and E. coli O157:H7.  Legionellosis, also called Legionnaires’ disease, is a lung infection, a form of pneumonia which can be fatal, caused by the legionella bacterium.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, RWI outbreaks are on the rise.  Arguably, because pool owners are failing to maintain proper water safety levels:

  • Over the last four years Crypto cases increased more than 200% (from 3,411 cases to 10,500 cases).
  • Each year, 8,000–18,000 people in theUnited Statesare hospitalized with Legionnaires’ disease.
  • A 2010 CDC study found that 1 in 8 public pool inspections resulted in pools being closed immediately due to serious code violations such as improper chlorine levels, which could facilitate the spread of RWIs.

Optimum pool safety levels and aquatic results can only be achieved by performing daily pool maintenance in-house rather than entrusting this important task to a Service Company, which can be inattentive and unprepared, or simply stated, not there when an incident that needs immediate attention occurs.  Only in-house maintenance will dramatically reduce the possibility of RWIs in your pool, liability suits and governmental regulatory action.  In addition, it will provide your guests with a higher quality and safer aquatic experience.

By making the transition from service contract to in-house you will have greater control over your pool maintenance expenses.  Our customers typically save 30% – 40% during the seven-month off-peak season when the need for pool maintenance and chemicals are lower.  Based on local weather conditions and bathing load, pool maintenance levels are divided between peak and off-peak season.  Although the cost is lower to maintain your pool during off-peak season, Service Companies do not pass these cost savings on to you.

Based on a 100,000gal. pool, typical cost savings during off-peak season is more than $5,000.

SERVICE CONTRACT TO IN-HOUSE POOL MAINTENANCE TRANSITION PROGRAM

For customers who currently out-source their pool maintenance to service companies, Supreme Chemical & Pool Supply has developed a program to assist you with a quick and efficient transition to an in-house pool maintenance program.  By performing pool maintenance in-house, our customers not only realize greater cost savings on bulk chemicals, supplies and equipment but more efficient and higher quality maintenance.  Indeed, a 2001 study by conducted by the International Facility Management Association found that there was a direct correlation between in-house staffs and increased frequency of the tasks performed.”

To facilitate the quick and efficient transition from a service contract to an in-house pool maintenance program, Supreme Chemical & Pool Supply has developed the following 3 point transition plan:

  • Supreme Chemical & Pool Supply will provide the National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool and Spa Operator License required by the Florida Department of Health to display at your property during the transition period.
  • Supreme Chemical & Pool Supply will provide Pool Care training to your current or prospective staff member(s) that will be assigned the responsibility of pool, spa and/or fountain maintenance.
  • After training, Supreme Chemical & Pool Supply will provide NSPF Certified Pool & Spa Course registration and class schedule information to assist in the Certification of your staff member(s).
